Lost Superheroes

Lost Superheroes

Over the last several years several movies have been produced in which a group of superheroes responds to a global threat and fight to defeat it.

But as I was reading something the other day an interesting question came to mind; What if a superhero forgot they were a superhero?

What if Clark Kent forgot he was Superman?

What if he forgot he could fly, or run really fast, or stop bullets?

What if someone had to remind him?

These thoughts lead me to another question. Would reminding him be enough or would have to personally believe it was true?

I think we as believers often run into a similar dilemma. When calamity strikes we can quickly forget who we are and the significance of being a child of the one true King.

Paul reminds us in the book of Romans that if we have accepted Jesus into our lives we are children of God:

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.f And by him we cry, “Abba,g Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.” -Romans 8:14-17

Do we as followers of Christ understand what this really means? It means we need to remember who really are. We are sons and daughters of the most high God. We have been given eternal life and no longer need to be afraid to love and to fight and to be who God has created us to be.

This world is dying and we cannot stop it. It is supposed to. But we can fight for the people in it and help them to discover their true identity.

We can only do this however by re-discovering who we really are.

So my challenge to you is this:

Take time today to get with God and have Him remind you what it means to be a part of His kingdom. Have him show you where you put the chest that contains your super suit. Or the room you stored your armor in. Begin to dust it off and then put it on and take time to remember what it feels like to be a hero.

We are heroes when we take time to share a cup of coffee with a coworker, when we give that hug that someone needed. We are heroes when we take time to help someone out, to listen, to pray. We are heroes just by going out there and reflecting the love that our King has for us.

Will you join in the fight again?

God Bless-
The ordinary everyday superhero
